Took another stab at this view of the Newport Bridge from Jamestown RI.
Check Post # 161 for the beginning of this work.
Here is the progression thus far:
First I redid the slope of the bridge to the far right. I changed it by a half-inch, so you may not even notice. Next I added the little cattle shack and then the greenery around the barn. I then added the tree in the foreground but still have leaves to add. I also worked on the over-all foliage a bit too.
I’m on the fence with this painting. I want to quit it and banish it to the basement.
I do not like the quintessential little barn in the painting. I find it annoying even if there really is a tiny cattle shack on this property in real life. I feel like maybe I should pipe in little ducks and a rainbow too.
I could add some cows, but that might annoy me even more.
I could just paint over the barn and leave it plain old farm fields…I just don’t know what I want to do.
Here, I will ask you the viewers to vote:
I’m just not feeling it. I sure could use some input.
On that note, I will leave you with some other cool photos sent to me by my mom. She went on a sailing exposition and snapped a really cool photo of the lighthouse near the bridge.
I just love how the bridge looks like it is springing out of the woods. Love it.
Thanks a bunch!

This may be a case of the dreaded Analysis Paralysis. Put it away, out of sight for 48 hours, and come back to it.
Or just add the leaves and end your torment. It’s a beautiful piece!

Hey Mary, Just wondered if you are unhappy because its a world away from your normally vibrant paintings, I may be wrong, still a nice landscape. Though I have noticed the bridge supports are just on this side and not one either side of the bridge. Easily sorted in acrylic though :-) Carry on the good work love the pottery! I’m sculpting in clay at the mo – results so far…:-( mainly , sometimes :-! but mostly :-( I’ll keep practising….
Thanks for the bridge supports! It is amazing how quickly your eyes stop seeing things! I wonder if you are correct about the color thing…I’m missing the energy I usually feel… I have to get over to your blog and check out your clay work!
Sadly I haven’t been able to upload anything on my computer for quite a while – issues needs replacing -which I’m working on (Probably a good thing in the case of the clay!) Anyways! I know sometimes if I go off base from the norm it de-energises me, maybe its just an effect of lack of colour, I really do like your style and you have produced some fab pieces! Hope the bridge supports thing helps, it might even be the reason you were not happy – ALL artist sometimes miss what is right in front of them – we are only human :-)
Could it be that it lies somewhere between reality and fantasy? Populating with bridge traffic and some farm animals would make it more real…or, more familiar. I’d agree with the comment to sleep on it and return later. I like it!.
