You may look at this post and wonder why I bother. Really is there that much difference between the photo above and the photo below? To me, YES!
I am not sure if there are other people like me out there, but I go batty living in the same environment within a month or two. It’s like my eyes hit that saturation point where they just don’t notice details anymore. Like a pretty picture, a cool looking vase, a fabulously patterned pillow. Nada. My eyes turn off.
After this happens, my moods get affected. I feel claustrophobic, bored, and irritable. I start having thoughts like I am ready to move again or ready to invest in new furniture…I get antsy.
I figured out that people like me, do really well with switcheroos.
Here were the photos of my living room this morning.
They are fine. Nothing wrong with this picture, but I simply CRAVE change.
So I stripped the room of its curtains, pillows and accessories and started with a clean slate. Over the years I have slowly figured out that white walls allow me to change everything else so easily. If my walls were purple, I’d be locked in to fewer options.
Next I go shopping in my basement. I put back what I’m not using and find some new props. Being “creative” lends itself to being a collector of many things. I rummage thrift shops, yard sales and my family members basements for things with character. Then I store them all and switch them in and out throughout the year.
Then I decorate.
I definitely know people who stress about decorating, they find it a mind-boggling chore.
Not me. I love it.
As soon as I’m finished, I could pull everything out of the room and start all over again! It’s that much fun for me.
Here is a cute touch. I took all my kids little itty-bitty toys and I compartmentalized them into trays and cups. I have actually found they play more with toys when they are out than when they’re tucked away in baskets and boxes.
Here is another treasure. I grabbed a white pillow case at Ikea for $2 bucks. For my birthday I asked my kids and niece and nephew to decorate it for me. Just sharpies. I love it. It’s happy and personal.
To finish off the afternoon, I cut flowers and put them in different rooms. I have to say, since I started this 365, I rarely get around to creative small touches. In fact, my gardens are a mess!
With that in mind, today was a special treat to myself. My house is clean, my eyes are re-stimulated, and my spirit has been re-lifted.
It’s the simple pleasures for me.
Sweet and simple.
