My husband has this vacant office that he is stuck in a lease with, until May. It’s loaded with computer equipment for his business, but other than that, it is HUGE, well lit and warm. I’ve been the artist squatting in residence for some time now.
I mention this because I am sure all his techie computer guys are just thrilled. The past three weeks they have heard BANG, BANG, BANG from my hammer. Then there’s the saw dust flying from my saws and to top it off the smell of burning wood from my drills. Sowwy guys I SWEAR, IT’S IN THE NAME OF ART! ;)
The above fish are quite large. They range from 3-4 feet.
I’m also working on these wall hangings, shadow boxes and sculptures. Each of them are still incomplete. I am going to add pottery elements to each of them to make them more personal.
It feels good to finally put a dent in that driftwood collection! I’m feeling organized and off to a good start.
Oh I love these! I want to make one! I live near a creek so I could get some driftwood. However I’d have to tromp through A LOT of snow to even get to the creek and then most of it might be frozen along the banks. Maybe in a month it would be more doable. Spring isn’t even thinking about arriving in Montana.
Oh Janie it is so cold and windy here too. I haven’t been brave enough to hit the beach. Some of the prettiest pieces of driftwood I’ve ever found came from the Hudson River, so I’d say definitely try it! The other thing you want is the beat up boards left in your friends back yards… old farms too. Then when I’m walking with my kids I pick up trash like beer cans, bottle caps and broken pieces of metal. My kids get sooo embarrassed! But just think, I’m cleaning up the area at the same time right? ;)
you are amazing, Mary.

Love this new project. I wish I had driftwood to work with but for some reason we don’t get much on our beach. I’ll have to keep an eye out for other interesting debris.
